Folka is excited to present these beautiful and unique mini paintings in Petrykivka style.
"Petrykivka" is a traditional Ukrainian decorative painting style, originated from the village of Petrykivka in east-central Ukraine. Its history dates back to the 18th century when people started to decorate their whitewashed house walls and interiors. Later, in the 19th century everyday household items like furniture, boxes and wooden kitchenware were also richly ornamented.
It's dominated by fantasy floral motifs - various flowers like asters, dahlias, roses, daisies are painted among fruits and ferns. Sometimes floral patterns are combined with people, birds and animals. It's rich in symbolism: the rooster stand for fire and spiritual awakening, while birds represent light, harmony and happiness.
In 1935, a special two year school was opened in a village to teach this unique decorative painting style.
