Ukrainian Angel with a Trumpet Ornament by Oksana

 Wooden toys are important part of Ukrainian folk culture. Yavoriv, city in the Lviv region is famous for their wooden toys. They date back to the XVII century. Horses, birds, cradles, moving toys, hanging ornaments are the most popular. 

Traditionally, they are made from linden and aspen and painted in 3 bright colours - red, green and yellow. Red is the colour of flowers and berries, green represents trees. Bright yellow colour was added in the 30s of the XX century and it symbolises the sun.

Each ornament is made by an Ukrainian artist Oksana. She revives traditional toys making in Yavoriv.
